What makes our Salmon so Special?

• Our Salmon is Troll-caught, which means each fish is caught individually with a hook and line. No nets are involved and we have no by-catch, thus causing very little impact on the environment. Each fish is stunned in the water to avoid bruising and scale loss. Once the fish is on board, it is immediately bled, cleaned and stored in ice to ensure the highest quality.

• Our Salmon is Ocean-Bright, which means that our fish is caught in the Pacific Ocean where Omega-3 oils and flavor are at their highest peak. Not in rivers or bays where salmon are in their last phase of life, to spawn.

• Alaska Salmon is certified as Eco-Sustainable by the Marine Stewardship Council meaning
that the salmon come from healthy and thriving salmon streams.

• Our Salmon is Fresh-Frozen, which means that they are frozen at -40 degrees so that the center of the meat is frozen quickly. This locks in the freshness until it is thawed and is what makes our salmon considered sushi-grade.

• The final product (except for whole salmon) is Vacuum-packed for protection and longevity of the product. It can be kept in a freezer for up to a year without freezer burn or deterioration.

• We Direct-Market our salmon. This means that we skip all the middlemen to bring the salmon directly to you and your money is directly supporting the fishermen.

• We offer Traceability. Each package is labeled with the fisherman’s name so you know who caught and cared for your salmon. Click above to see a picture of your fisherman.

  Aren't Salmon almost extinct?

No, not in the State of Alaska. The fishing industry is essential to the State of Alaska. The Marine Stewardship Council has certified the State of Alaska as Eco-Sustainable. This means that the salmon runs are healthy and sustainable thanks to the management of their fisheries by biologists at the Fish & Game Department, whose primary purpose is to ensure that the Alaskan waters are not over fished. Eco-sustainable, Troll-caught Salmon is comparable to Organic Vegetables.

In fact, here's an interesting note. If consumers don't demand wild salmon, there will be no economic incentive to keep these salmon habitats and waterways protected. So you can show your support of this industry and demand that your local stores and restaurants serve Wild Alaskan Salmon.

How does trolling work?

Many people ask if we use poles to reel up each fish. Well, almost. Our boat has two large 42 foot aluminum poles that hang off each side of the boat. Off of each pole are two lines with 50 pound leads (down riggers) that go 15-45 fathoms deep into the water. One fathom = 6 feet. The depth depends on where we think the salmon are hiding. Off of each line, there are a number of leaders with a hook, spoon, plug or hoochie on the end, depending on what we think the salmon are hungry for. Alot of fishing philosophy goes into catching these critters, along with alot of old superstitions!
